Fernando Alonso was away from Formula 1 in recent years but decided to return this season. However, the Spaniard has noticed few changes compared to when he left.

The driver went through a bad year with McLaren in 2018, with which he was at the back of the driver's field almost every race. Therefore, he decided to leave the car class once again and focus on other things. This season, however, he will be driving for Alpine.

Alonso saw little change over the last few years, he told the Spanish news agency EFE in an interview. "Everything is still pretty much the same compared to 2018 when I left Formula 1. Then we had the same teams and the same people in the same teams. Mercedes dominated, although Red Bull Racing could give some pressure," he explained.

Battle between Hamilton and Verstappen

When Alonso looks at the drivers who have a chance of winning the world title this season, he again sees few surprises. "The same people still seem to be upfront, with Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen fighting for the title. So I don't think there has been any revolution or surprise in the last two years."
