Honda praises: 'Verstappen's performance once again accounts for victory'
- GPblog.com
The weekend in Zandvoort was a great success. Max Verstappen started the race first and only relinquished his first place to Valtteri Bottas after the first corner.
Honda also saw that the victory, also thanks to a good strategy, was never really in danger. On Honda's website Toyoharu Tanabe says that he thought the Dutchman's performance was the main reason for the victory.
"Another victory, which was again due to a brilliant performance by Max and good race management by the Red Bull Racing team. It was far from an easy race with Max battling two Mercedes, but the team made the right decisions and the pit crew did an excellent job of staying one step ahead of them."
Honda praising the fans
Because like many drivers and team bosses, he was bawling his eyes out today and in fact the whole weekend.
"The Dutch fans created a fantastic atmosphere all weekend, although we felt a lot of pressure to put in a good performance in Max's home race. In the end we were all very relieved by this best possible result. This was the first time we raced at Zandvoort after an absence of many years and for Honda it will also be the last time, so we are happy that we were able to give the Dutch fans, who showed Honda so much support this weekend, the result they wanted. Now we head to Italy motivated to do well for the rest of the season."
Honda will try to continue the form of last weekend at Monza next weekend and, together with Verstappen, close the gap on Mercedes in the constructors' championship.
