Nikita Mazepin was unable to score any points in his home race. Although even Haas had a chance to score points in the chaotic final stage of the Russian Grand Prix, Mazepin and Mick Schumacher, who had already retired, were unable to take advantage of the spontaneous rain. In fact, Mazepin was in contention again in Sochi after receiving a further warning from race officials.

Should Mazepin be dealt with?

Before the summer break there was a strange moment with Mazepin in just about every race. He often received penalties for this. The race at Spa was a good example, but this was mainly because there was no racing in Belgium. At Monza, the Russian had another run-in with teammate Mick Schumacher, and at his home race in Sochi, he had another run-in with Mazepin in the AlphaTauri of Yuki Tsunoda.

The question is therefore starting to arise more and more loudly: shouldn't the Russian be punished properly for his behaviour for once? Michael Masi reacts to the incident with Mazepin. To Speedweek.com He says: "He's made a few visits to the stewards already, but if we look at who's been asked to go to the stewards, he doesn't stand out too much. So no, at the moment we don't see anything inappropriate or worrying there."

Anxious colleagues

Fellow drivers are often extra nervous when they have to lap Mazepin. Sergio Perez had a scare once, and Esteban Ocon said after his victory in Hungary he was terrified when the Russian was flagged for him: "You're always extra careful when you're fighting Mazepin, because you never know what comes next. Masi, however, denies that such things factor into the handing out of penalties: "We judge incidents based on what happened, not on opinions. In terms of driving style, I think we have about twenty different ones."
