Red Bull: ‘Mainly Verstappen's car that behaved strangely’

Helmut Marko knows that Red Bull Racing need to do better if they are to compete for pole position and victory in the Turkish Grand Prix. There is still a lot of room for improvement in the RB16B and it will be a long Friday night for the Austrian team.
Earlier, Marko indicated that the reason for 'too much' grip is the track. Red Bull had expected the tarmac to be smoother and so they ran the simulations a bit more. Verstappen's car, in particular, did not do what it was supposed to do. "It was mainly Verstappen's car that behaved strangely. With Perez it was also not optimal, but not nearly as distressing."
Lacking balance, the Milton Keynes-based racing team was not fast enough in both the short and long runs. Red Bull conceded half a second in qualifying time and in long runs Red Bull also failed to match Mercedes. Yet they are still confident of a solution, according to Marko and Motorsport-Magazin.com. "I am already of the opinion that we will work it out."
RB16 won't steer in
According to Auto, Motor und Sport, Verstappen and Perez drove in the final phase of their longrun in the second free practice with slightly more power. It wasn't to much avail, but Red Bull knows where the problem lies. "Even taking that into account we are slower than Mercedes. The car doesn't turn in. Instead, the rear breaks away," the 78-year-old Austrian concluded.
