Lewis Hamilton seemed to be heading for a race without a pit stop during the Turkish Grand Prix, but Mercedes decided to bring him in at the end. Jan Lammers thought it was a remarkable choice, although he understood it in a way.

According to the former driver, the German racing team decided during the race to take a risk that turned out completely wrong. "The risk they took from the team was all-or-nothing," he stated to NOS Studio Sport. "If the track had dried out quickly, they would have gone to slicks for the last few laps. Only the drying didn't happen at the speed they expected."

Hamilton and Verstappen keep it exciting

As a result of Mercedes' choice, Hamilton lost his third place in the race and finished in fifth position. It ensures that for now, he is looking at a six-point deficit to his rival Max Verstappen.

According to Lammers, however, there is still little to say of which driver has the greatest chance of winning the world title. "I have said many times that the outcome of the world championship is not going to depend only on Hamilton and Verstappen. The others (Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas) who grabbed points are the jammers. So it's going to be exciting until the last race."
