Bottas beats Verstappen and Hamilton in striking statistics
- GPblog.com
Valtteri Bottas has been criticised a lot in recent years. The Finnish driver was said not to be good enough for Mercedes, as Lewis Hamilton scored far more points. However, the statistics have completely reversed since the announcement of his departure from Mercedes.
The last couple of months the rumour was already there that George Russell would be the new driver for Mercedes. Behind the scenes the German team was looking for a place for Bottas who wanted to stay active in Formula 1. In the end the interest of Alfa Romeo was enough to make the switch and Bottas is now in his last months with Mercedes.
It seems to be a relief for Bottas, because since that moment the Finn has been performing like never before. He scored no less than 51 points for his team, making him by far the most points earned. Max Verstappen has scored 36 points since that time, while Hamilton only has one point less than the Dutchman.
Bottas in third place in world championship
Where it was previously still in doubt whether Bottas would finish third in the world championship, it now seems to be a certainty. Bottas is on the bronze position with 177 points, trailing Lando Norris by 32 points.
