Off to America: Hulkenberg does IndyCar test for McLaren
- GPblog.com
Nico Hulkenberg seems to be on his way to America. The German made one last attempt to get into Formula 1, but with an IndyCar test scheduled, the German may be admired in the United States next year.
Hulkenberg lost his Formula One seat at Renault at the end of 2019. The German went on a one-year break but was given another chance at Racing Point to show himself in some substitute appearances. This brought him back into the picture at Red Bull Racing, among others, but they ultimately opted for Sergio Perez for 2021.
Hulkenberg to America
Hulkenberg himself indicated that he was making a last attempt to return to F1 this year and that otherwise, it would be over. He had a reserve role at Aston Martin this year but didn't come into action for the team. Alfa Romeo still has a seat available for 2022, but Hulkenberg does not appear to be a serious candidate there.
Now reports Formel1.de However, Hulkenberg will be in action on Monday, October 25 during an IndyCar test at Barber Motorsports Park. He will drive there in an Arrow McLaren SP. The test is an evaluation/rookie test and therefore does not necessarily mean that Hulkenberg will get a seat at McLaren, but with a good performance, he could be in the spotlight. McLaren will field three cars in 2022 and alongside Felix Rosenqvist and Patricio O'Ward, Hulkenberg would be a nice addition to the line-up.
