Carlos Sainz can call himself a Ferrari driver in 2021 and that takes some getting used to for the Spaniard. It's a dream come true, but at the same time, he also feels that people are looking at him very differently now.
Sainz had a taste for driving at McLaren but after one strong year, he received an offer he couldn't refuse. Ferrari wanted him and driving for the Italian team has always been a dream for Sainz. The Spaniard did not have to think long about the offer. In 2021 he will drive for his dream team and he immediately notices that the fans treat you differently.
Sainz meets Ferrari fans
''It is true that the fans in Italy are super passionate and super respectful in a way that I didn't expect. I mean even touching you, or shaking your hand, for them it is something super special. They really respect you, and they really have you on a pedestal for some reason, and it's quite impactful,'' the 27-year-old driver told Motorsport.com.
''They get super nervous when you're near them, and this is a feeling that I've never had before as a driver: just how nervous people become when you're close to them. I tap them on the back and say, 'come on, I'm a 27-year-old, like you, just relax and take the pictures'. But I often take the phone from them to take it myself'', concludes the Spaniard.
