Horner: 'Hopefully Verstappen can turn first pole in seven years into win'

Max Verstappen will start from pole position at the United States Grand Prix. It is the first time in seven years that no Mercedes is on the first starting spot. Christian Horner hopes that the Dutchman can turn this result into a victory.
"It’s a short run, but it’s an uphill run towards turn one, so that’s the first challenge. They’re going to get stuck into the race and obviously deal with the conditions", Horner tells Jack Plooij in the preview of Ziggo Sport.
Mercedes strong at this track
It will be exciting to see if Mercedes can make things difficult for Red Bull. The longruns on Friday gave the impression that the race pace of the title rivals is almost equal. Horner hopes for victory. Normally Mercedes are strong at the circuit in Austin.
"I hope so, but we know they are always quick in the race. They are going to be pushing hard as they always do. Mercedes has always been strong here, but Max has done a great job, he’s got the pole. The first pole in seven years for a non-Mercedes car, so we want to try and convert it today", Horner says.
