Since the news came out that Andretti will probably not take over Alfa Romeo Sauber, there has been a lot of talk about Porsche and Audi. Thomas Laudenbach, the new vice president of Porsche Motorsport, has indicated that Porsche would like to play a role in Formula 1.

The Volkswagen Group, owner of Porsche and Audi, recently took part in talks with the FIA and Formula One manufacturers to see if they could possibly play a role in the sport in 2026. The talks are still ongoing, but now there are some initial positive reports from the Vice President. The positives come mainly because Formula 1 is becoming more and more involved in electrification and that's exactly what Porsche wants to see.

"If you look at the future and you look at what car manufacturers are announcing about the proportion of electric vehicles they want to sell in the future, I think it's very important that Formula 1 takes a step towards electrification. From what I know now, the FIA has taken a huge step in that direction. That's going to help," said the German.

No secret anymore

Laudenbach sees that things are moving in the right direction, but he is still keeping an open mind. Porsche in particular would like to see more freedom from electrical components. Despite the doubts, the German does admit that they definitely see it as a possibility.

"It's no secret that we're thinking about [F1]. It's no secret that we are in talks with the FIA and it's no secret that we are, shall we say, seriously considering it. But no decision has been made yet. One thing is clear, if such a decision is made, you can't wait too long, because if you want to race in 2025, you have to start at a certain time. That's where we stand."
