Alonso sees dream dashed: "The car makes the biggest difference"

Fernando Alonso returned to Formula 1 this season with Alpine. With a tenth place in the world championship, the Spaniard makes an excellent impression, as Felipe Massa agrees. However, the former Formula 1 driver does not think that Alonso will ever compete for victories again.
"It was a bit difficult for him in the first few races of this year, but he is back to being the competitive Fernando we know," Massa told Spanish AS in an interview. "He doesn't have the car to win, but he's doing a very important job. He is fast, consistent and makes a show of it for the fans."
Alonso's chances in 2022
Alonso has impressed so much in recent races that Formula 1 connoisseurs have argued that he still has the qualities to fight for the front positions. According to Massa, however, they must then remember that it is important to be in the right car.
"You need a car. You can be Alonso, Hamilton, Schumacher or Senna, whoever you want, but you need a good car to have a chance of winning," Massa noted. "The difference in level between one and the other is very small. The car makes the biggest difference."
