The battle between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton will continue in Mexico. Fernando Alonso has a lot of respect for Hamilton's qualities, but he thinks that the Dutchman will eventually take the world title.
The Spaniard is following the title battle between the two drivers this season as an Alpine driver. Alonso emphasized that the tension is also palpable on the track. In conversation with The Telegraaf Alonso that he fancies Verstappen for the title.
"Yes, thanks to Max. One hundred percent," Alonso stated. "When Lewis only has to fight with his teammate Valtteri Bottas for the title everything is great. Now he feels some pressure and he gets into trouble. And then you also see during this season that that British machine is starting to run again. Max is handling that very well."
Alonso compares incidents
With the British machine, Alonso pointed to the British media who are said to be against Verstappen. "Look at the two incidents between Max and Lewis, this year. Those, in my opinion, are not judged equally. After the contact in Silverstone, Red Bull stirred, but otherwise it remained fairly quiet. After the crash in Monza there was much more talk. And Max got a grid penalty for the next race. I think nobody understood that. But again that's part of that pressure from certain quarters."
