For the first time in F1 history a race will be held in Qatar. Max Verstappen looks ahead to the race and explains how he is dealing with the tension that comes with this phase of the championship. Mercedes and Red Bull Racing are well matched, as was apparent in Brazil and Mexico.
Verstappen had no choice
At the FIA press conference the leader of the 2021 championship speaks. The Dutchman immediately gets the questions about the now infamous indicent in turn four in Brazil with Lewis Hamilton. Verstappen explains:
"I didn't watch the footage, because I was in the car myself. It was a good fight, but they won. My tires were very worn. If I had turned in more abruptly I would have spinnend off the track."
In fact, Verstappen explains that he had no choice but to make a wide turn. The drivers kept it clean and have separately stated they enjoyed the fight. A follow-up investigation does not seem to be necessary based on the Dutchman's statement.
