Stewards keep Red Bull and Mercedes in suspense: Decision tomorrow
- GPblog.com
The incident between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton during the Brazilian Grand Prix was the talk of the week. Mercedes disagreed with the decision not to penalise Verstappen and therefore wanted to use their right to have the matter reviewed. After a long conclave, the stewards have decided that they have not made up their minds yet, so the decision will be made tomorrow.
So Red Bull and Mercedes are still kept in suspense until Friday. On Thursday, both sides were due to meet in a video call with Brazil's stewards, but after hours of deliberation, they haven't come to an agreement.
Stewards need more time for Verstappen issue
The meeting was scheduled at 14:00 UK time. A few hours later it was announced that both teams were expected back at the stewards' office at 17:00 UK time for a continuation of the discussion. In the meantime it has become clear that no conclusion has been agreed upon yet and that the verdict will have to wait another day.
However, the decision taken on Friday need not be final. This is the case if the stewards stick to their original decision and see no reason to reopen the case in the images provided by Mercedes.
If it is decided that the footage does give cause to reopen the case, a new hearing will first take place to review and assess the case. On that basis it will be decided whether the Dutchman will be penalised or will keep his second place.
No decision on the Mercedes request tonight.
