In 2022 we will not only have a record number of Grands Prix of 23, also the number of sprint races will be doubled from three to six.
Formula 1 has made a proposal for which six locations will get such a sprint race. The
Dutch Grand Prix would be one of those six race weekends for a sprint race on Saturday.
During a meeting between
Formula 1 and the team bosses the six locations for the sprint races were proposed according to
Autosport. One of the sprint races would be held in the Netherlands at
Zandvoort. This sprint race would be held on Saturday 3 September, with qualifying on Friday and the main race on Sunday.
It has also been proposed to hold a sprint race in Bahrain on the first weekend. The
Bahrain Grand Prix will now take place from March 18-20. The other proposed locations are the Grands Prix of Emilia Romagna at
Imola, Canada, Austria and Brazil. The sprint races in Great Britain and Italy would disappear in this proposal.
