Sergio Perez saw his chances of victory go up in smoke when the safety car came out for the first time in Jeddah. What could have been his second win on behalf of Red Bull Racing ended in fourth place. Nonetheless, he wholeheartedly wishes Max Verstappen the win.
Perez happy for Verstappen and Red Bull
Shortly after the finish, the Mexican hears his engineer on the board radio, who stresses how sorry he is that Perez had such bad luck. He also lets him know that Verstappen managed to overtake and keep Charles Leclerc behind him.
Perez expresses his joy for his teammate and the team, which raked in a good number of points after the zero score in Bahrain. "Well done to Max," he replies on the radio. This is followed by team boss Christian Horner, who stresses that Perez was "pure bad luck" after an extremely strong performance at the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
Despite his own disappointment, Perez congratulates the team on the victory. "I am very happy for the team. This is a very good result after last weekend," Perez said.
