Lewis Hamilton has a very SCARY high speed spin during FP1

Lewis Hamilton had a scary high-speed spin during the first free practice session for the United States Grand Prix. Hamilton lost control of the car in the first sector but contact with anything. The Mercedes is fit with upgrades for the first time, and the drivers only have 60 minutes to see how they work before the first meaningful part of the session. George Russell also had a spin during the session.

Problems for Mercedes?

Hamilton told his team to check the tyres when he returned to the pits. "When I come in you have to check those damn tyres, and check the floor," the seven-time World Champion said. He was off the racing line as a slow-moving car got in the way.

Meanwhile, his teammate also reported a big moment in his car. "Was that Turn 4 for Lewis? Because I had a big moment there as well. That's weird. Have a look at mine, cause I had something very similar there," Russell said. He later spun as well in the same place.

It's the only practice session ahead of sprint qualifying in Austin. Follow the liveblog here
