Charles Leclerc has claimed the top spot in FP2, finishing ahead of his teammate Carlos Sainz by only 0.004 seconds. Lewis Hamilton claimed the third spot in the timing charts, but it was Max Verstappen's struggles that caught many off guard.
Verstappen's issues in FP1 seemed to be over when the Dutchman came onto the track early in the hour, but the cheers from the fans soon turned to worried chatter. The Dutchman struggled, in front of his home fans, to match the times set by both Ferrari and Mercedes drivers and even Lando Norris as well. He finished 0.693 seconds down on Leclerc and wasn't able to improve upon his times as the session continued on. Sergio Perez was even further behind his teammate and finished down in 12th place.
As for the Ferrari duo, hope will be there. Leclerc's 1:12:345 was enough to beat his teammate, but only by 0.004 seconds. Sainz was on top for the majority of the session, before the Monegasque hijacked his top spot as the teams started to switch to long runs.
It's been a strong day for Mercedes, as Hamilton and George Russell found themselves in the top five, however, they were split by Norris. Hamilton has the edge over his teammate and finished only 0.072 seconds down on Leclerc, whilst Russell was 0.310 seconds behind. It was an exciting hour for Norris in his pacy McLaren, but for Daniel Ricciardo, it's been a session to forget compared to earlier. The Australian finished in 10th but had to stop his session early due to an oil leak on his radiator.
Alpine have also managed to find themselves in the top 10 in both practice sessions today, as Fernando Alonso claimed the seventh spot, with Esteban Ocon two places down in ninth. However, when compared to the midfield rivals around them, it was only Norris and Lance Stroll who finished ahead. The Canadian finished in sixth, over one-hundredth of a second ahead of the Spaniard. As for Stroll's teammate, Sebastian Vettel was only able to best a 14th place finish but did find himself in the top 10 throughout the hour.
Mick Schumacher was the best of the bottom teams today, as he finished in 13th and found himself up in fourth during the hour. However, it was a very quiet session for the rest of the drivers around him. Guanyu Zhou, Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon finished within 0.250 seconds of the German and claimed the 15th, 16th and 17th positions, followed by Valtteri Bottas, Kevin Magnussen and Nicholas Latifi.
Yuki Tsunoda finished the session in 11th, but caused the only red flag of the hour, as he beached his AlphaTauri in the gravel at turn 10.
