A short but oh so sweet
F1 Sprint at São Paulo saw
George Russell take Mercedes' first win of the season!
Best Sprint ever?
There were battles galore in Brazil, with
George Russell winning after a tough battle with
Max Verstappen.
Carlos Sainz sneaked through into second-place, with
Lewis Hamilton making it two Mercedes in the top-three. It was a disaster for
Max Verstappen who came home fourth after contact with the
Ferrari of Sainz and a lack of pace.
Russell victorious!
Unbelievably it's George Russell and Mercedes that take the F1 Sprint victory in dramatic fashion! A season-highlight battle between the Mercedes-man and reigning World Champion Max Verstappen unfolded over the course of multiple laps in tough but fair fashion.
Mercedes finally win a race in 2022!
...But not a Grand Prix. Yet. If the pace of the Mercedes in the F1 Sprint is anything to go by, then George Russell and
Lewis Hamilton are certainly the favourites for tomorrow's Grand Prix. With
Carlos Sainz's five-place penalty, the two Mercedes will lock out the front row.
Magnussen's mega start
The story of the weekend leading up to the F1 Sprint was the fairytale first pole-position for
Kevin Magnussen and
Haas F1 team. The Dane had a monster start and managed to lead the first two laps of the race, even pulling away from the field as Max Verstappen and George Russell briefly squabbled for second-place. Ultimately Magnussen could not do anything about the faster cars behind and finished eighth, getting the most out of his machinery.
Alpine woes
It was a disaster for F1's resident French team as teammates
Esteban Ocon and
Fernando Alonso found themselves together multiple times, culminating in contact between the two. The Spaniard lost his front wing as he went into the back of the Frenchman, costing the team a good finish.
