Lando Norris dominated proceedings in the second free practice session of the weekend at the
Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, topping the timing sheet for the majority of the session. His teammate
Oscar Piastri was next in P2, giving the British team 1-2 as they look to seal the constructors' championship in the Middle East, their first since 1998. A brilliant lap from
Nico Hulkenberg meant he rounded out the top three
Coming into this weekend at the
Yas Marina Circuit, it was all about
McLaren and
Ferrari as they battle it out for the constructors' championship. The Italian team topped the first session with
Charles Leclerc, but FP2 was all about Norris, who was rarely threatened on the timing sheet. With FP2 also resembling the conditions that will be seen for qualifying and the Grand Prix, it was a big statement from
McLaren.
Piastri backed up McLaren's dominance with a 1-2, while Hulkenberg backed up his phenomenal season with a great P3 in the Haas. Behind the top three was the first Ferrari of
Carlos Sainz, with
Lewis Hamilton coming in P5 to slipt the two Ferraris as Leclerc took P6.
Valtteri Bottas,
Kevin Magnussen, Alex Alnon and
Yuki Tsunoda rounded out the top ten as the chequered flag fell.
George Russell could only come P13 after making a mistake on his soft tyre run, while it was not a session to remember for Red Bull.
Sergio Perez could only come in 14th place, while
Max Verstappen was even further behind, all the way down in P17.
