Colton Herta did not have enough points for a super licence, so the American could not get a spot at AlphaTauri. Some people did not understand he had to miss out. Some, like Romain Grosjean, also understand it.

These days, the former F1 driver can be found in the IndyCar series. He tells in conversation with Motorsport magazine that Herta never won a championship, not in IndyCar or in Indy Light. "So I also understand why he doesn’t have the points for a superlicence," Grosjean says. "What I think is wrong is the amount of points we get in IndyCar. I think it should be at least at Formula 2 level, maybe more because the level is up there. There are some very fast drivers.”

Special

Herta may still get his chance, for example if Andretti Global manages to become the 11th team in Formula 1. The Americans would like to put Herta in one of the cars. If it is up to Grosjean, there is another driver in IndyCar who deserves a chance in Formula 1: "he guy that amazed me the most is Scott McLaughlin. I think he should have a test in F1, he would be fast. That guy is very special,” the Frenchman says of his teammate at Penske.

McLaughlin did not take a logical route before joining top team Penske in IndyCars. The New Zealander - now 29 years old - drove for years in the Australian Supercar Championship. In that, he became champion three times. Switching from touring cars to open racing is not common, rather the other way around.
