Logan Sargeant is not having an easy debut season in Formula 1. Every week the American is being out-driven by his teammate Alexander Albon, and the rookie is yet to score any points this season (unlike the Thai). Nevertheless, Sargeant, who raced in Formula 2 last season, is not dissatisfied with his first 12 Grands Prix.
"I think the last four rounds from a driving point of view, I think maybe we don't have the results to completely show for, but I think it's been a really good trend in the right direction," Sargeant told GPblog and others on Sunday after the Belgian Grand Prix. "I think as a team, collectively, we can clean some things up, and that's what we need to focus on going into the second part of the season. And yeah, speaking for myself, if I can take everything I've learned, start off on a better foot, and yeah, just make that next good jump is what I need to do, and I'd be happy with that."
Nyck de Vries was sidelined at AlphaTauri because he was, on average, two-tenths off his teammate Yuki Tsunoda during qualifying. The difference between Albon and Sargeant is over four-tenths of a second on most Saturdays. During the summer break, the American will have time to reflect on the past period and explore how he can structurally narrow the margin with Albon.
"I think for me personally, just knowing how I am, these breaks really help me, so I think it'll be a really good chance for me to, you know, take a good week, week and a half off to just have some time to myself, reset, and then dig back into it, and I think I always come out stronger on the other side of a break," Sargeant said.
