Fernando Alonso is currently the most experienced driver on the
Formula 1 grid. The Spaniard has won the world championship twice so far in his career. In the High Performance podcast, Alonso says that when he entered
Formula 1, he never rated himself less than his former championship competitor
Michael Schumacher.
The Aston Martin driver is 42, but despite his age, Alonso is still competitive. In the first 12 races of the season, he has managed to finish on the podium six times. A victory has not been achieved so far this season, however, but Alonso still sits third in the championship.
Alonso on Schumacher
When the Spaniard entered
Formula 1,
Michael Schumacher was the big name in the sport. "
I never felt I was slower than him, in a way," Alonso begins. "
Maybe it was a bit of a kamikaze approach to Formula 1 and the start of my career! But I never doubted that if I had the same car, maybe I could have challenged him one day."
