The documentary about Formula 1 drivers Gilles Villeneuve and Didier Pironi will soon be shown on Sky TV. Before that, the also film will be shown at the Glasgow Film Festival.
The documentary follows the turbulent collaboration between Villeneuve and Pironi at Ferrari in the 1980s. The drivers became teammates in 1981, and although the collaboration went very well at first - Pironi even said Villeneuve "made sure I was welcome in the close-knit family" - things went downhill fast a year later. At the San Marino Grand Prix, Villeneuve thought he could easily take the win, but on the last lap Pironi shot past him despite clear team orders. At the next race, Villeneuve tragically died during qualifying. In the short time between the two races, the men had not spoken a word to each other.
The documentary was made in collaboration with the families of both drivers. Iconic Formula One drivers Sir Jackie Stewart and Alain Prost also collaborated on the film. Both drivers drove during the same period as Pironi and Villeneuve and personally witnessed both the feud and Villeneuve's crash.
The documentary will first be shown at the Glasgow Film Festival on 5 March. Two weeks later, on 19 March, the film will be made available on Sky Documentaries.
