Nico Hulkenberg was hoping for a permanent seat in Formula 1 this season, but the German ultimately did not receive a contract offer anywhere. He is therefore currently active as a reserve driver for Mercedes and Aston Martin, but his ambitions reach further than that. In 2022 Hulkenberg wants to return to the grid.
Hulkenberg is holding talks with his two current employers, but these are mainly about tasks directly related to his job such as simulator work. "Discussions about possibilities or options for the future will hopefully start in the near future. At the moment it's still pretty quiet on that front."

Hulkenberg enjoys being an analyst

At ServusTV, the 33-year-old driver let it be known that he is enjoying himself as an analyst at Austrian television in any case. "That's very good for me. It would be difficult for me to give that up," he said.
Hulkenberg missed out on a job with Red Bull Racing last summer. He was a good candidate to replace Alexander Albon, but Sergio Perez was chosen. The Mexican finished the 2020 season with a strong performance that earned him a one-year contract as Max Verstappen's teammate.

give it up hulkenberg. you had what 10-11 years to get it done and never did. you're not alone; there are many drivers that look fantastic in the minors but just don't have what it takes to make it to the very top. your time has come and gone in f1. go enjoy something else. i seriously hope you were smart and made something of the money you earned .

Whose seat would he fill and in which team?
Red Bull, Ferrari and McLaren have capable drivers and they would not change. If Mercedes change their driver line up next year, they already have a very capable driver for the seat.
Ferrari and Alfa Romeo have plenty of talented junior drivers who can be put in and will definitely get onto a podium sooner than 10 years, unlike Hulk.
Haas won’t want him unless he can bring heaps of cash with him.
Alpha Tauri have their own capable junior drivers, who will again likely be on the podium before 2032.
That only leaves AM, Alpine & Williams.
So the most likely, if ever, would be AM if Seb decides to retire, otherwise I don’t really see which other team would want Hulk as their driver.

I think it would be AM and williams. Williams only if GR moves to Merc.AM probably better place. He can replace Seb..
