It was a remarkable moment in Q3: Charles Leclerc and Ferrari had a conversation over board radio about the tyres being used. The Monegasque was surprised to find a brand new set under his car and his race engineer spoke of a mistake. Leclerc is not angry about the blunder.
Speaking to Motorsport.com Leclerc let it be known that it was no 'big deal' and that the mistake was probably due to 'miscommunication'. "But of course, I did report it, because I was a bit surprised about it," said the 24-year-old driver, who goes on to say that it doesn't change anything about Ferrari's situation for the rest of the weekend.
It marked yet another miss from the Italian stable in 2022, but there is no sign of frustration from Leclerc. He was asked about it, but the answer was as short as it was simple: "No." In another interview, the talented driver also let it be known that he's not really losing any sleep over what happened.
Leclerc will be hoping to get on the podium on Sunday afternoon, but his chances of doing so seem to be a lot slimmer than Verstappen's. Ferrari were six-tenths slower in qualifying and it seems illogical that there is no difference in the speed of the RB18 and F1-75 in the long runs.
