The track in Monza on which the Italian Grand Prix is held is known as the 'Temple of Speed' because of its many straights. Many drivers therefore often choose to stick new engine parts here, often even if it results in a grid penalty. We did not see any grid penalties this weekend, but there were a number of drivers with new parts. GPblog lists the engine parts used so far for each driver.

Ferrari drivers on the edge

After the home race in Italy, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are on the brink of a grid penalty. Both Ferrari drivers had a new internal combustion engine (ICE), turbocharger (TC), MGU-H and MGU-K for the Italian GP. As a result, Leclerc and Sainz are now at the maximum number of parts allowed for this season and with eight races to go, a grid penalty seems inevitable.

George Russell, Valtteri Bottas, Liam Lawson (in Daniel Ricciardo's car) and Yuki Tsunoda picked up the same new parts as Ferrari's drivers and are therefore in the same situation. For the latter it is even a tad worse, Tsunoda's engine failed on the way to the starting grid for the Monza race. Should some parts not be repairable, the Japanese driver will already face a grid penalty in Singapore. Esteban Ocon did almost the same as the aforementioned drivers, the Frenchman only did not pick up a new internal combustion engine.
