Sergio Perez is not in the best phase of his career. In Monaco and Barcelona he went wrong on Saturday, and in Canada his qualifying was again far below par. The hoped-for recovery in the race failed to materialise. According to Perez himself, the RB19 lacked speed.

"It was a very difficult weekend, we didn't have the speed today," the Mexican said in conversation with ServusTV. Perez drove close to the Ferraris throughout the race, but he could not really attack. That he was left with only nine points (including the extra World Championship point for the fastest race lap) from this weekend he calls "unfortunate". "We missed an opportunity."

Fighting with Verstappen for World Cup

Perez has maintained all year that he will not settle for second place in the world championship this year. The title is the goal, but that goal is getting harder to achieve by the week. The gap with Max Verstappen is already 69 points after eight GPs, almost three complete race wins with Verstappen scoring a single point.

How does the 33-year-old driver view the World Championship and his chances of winning it? "At the moment I am more worried about my pace, we need to understand why I have fallen back. I need to get back in shape."
