Enzo Tarnvanichkul, aged 13, is part of the Red Bull Racing junior programme. The Thai driver became world karting champion this year and was presented with the appropriate World Championship by Max Verstappen at last week's FIA gala. Tarnvanichkul was asked about his relationship with Helmut Marko in an interview prior to that moment.
According to Tarnvanichkul, the 79-year-old Red Bull advisor is a very different person from how he is portrayed on television. "Marko is a great person. He has also had a wonderful career and has driven in F1 and Le Mans. A great and inspiring character when you meet him. The television sometimes misleads you. However, when you meet him it is very special and so felt it too." said the young driver.
Tarnvanichkul is proud to compete in racing under the Red Bull banner. He knows he is entering the right environment, although he will have to perform himself to eventually make it to Formula 1. "It is of course a very prestigious academy. Many drivers who were part of it later also reached Formula 1, which is of course the pinnacle of motorsport. First of all, you are very happy that you can join such a great academy. However, you soon think about the results and put pressure on yourself. You want to win, so that creates extra pressure."
The talent continued: "Plus, having a company like Red Bull on your car also makes it more fun, but it also creates more pressure because you represent the company." For Tarnvanichkul, it is important to keep performing consistently so that he can eventually compete in Formula 3 and grow from there.
With Alexander Albon, Tarnvanichkul has a compatriot and thus an example driving in the king class of motorsport. So it cannot be ruled out that we will see two Thai drivers at the highest level in the future. Red Bull is also partly Thai-owned, which could possibly play to its advantage in the future.
