United States Grand Prix

The United States Grand Prix is now a stable on the Formula 1 calendar. The race weekend has taken place at the Circuit of the Americas since 2012, but prior to that, the race was held at eight different locations over the 43 official events. It was the only race in America for a number of years until Miami was introduced in 2022, and Las Vegas has now joined the calendar. Lewis Hamilton is the most successful F1 driver at the current venue, with five wins.

F1 United States Grand Prix 2024

The 2024 United States Grand Prix will take place in the usual calendar position after the summer break. Usually, it’s tough to overtake in the corners, but with two straights, DRS becomes a key feature of the race across the 56 laps.

Who won the 2023 United States Grand Prix?

Max Verstappen was pushed, frustrated and rattled but has still claimed victory in the United States Grand Prix. It was victory number 15 for the Dutchman, equalling his own record for wins in a single season. This was probably one of his harder-fought victories in 2023, as both Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton were in the mix at various points, though Hamilton's push for the win wouldn't have mattered. The Brit was disqualified, along with Charles Leclerc, for their skid plank thickness being below the minimum level.

Where is the United States Grand Prix held?

The United States Grand Prix is held at the Circuit of the Americas, located in Austin, Texas. It is located in the south of the United States of America, in central Texas. The circuit has been open since 2012 and is visited by F1, Moto GP, MotoAmerica, NASCAR Cup Series, Xfinity Series and Craftsman Truck Series and Trans-Am Series.

United States GP history

The United States Grand Prix has taken place at the Circuit of the Americas 11 times. The event has also been held at eight other locations, including Indianapolis and Phoenix.

Lewis Hamilton has won at Austin five times. He also won the 2007 USA Grand Prix at Indianapolis. Michael Schumacher picked up five victories in the United States GP. Hamilton is the most successful driver at the circuit on the current grid, with Max Verstappen looking to close in on Hamilton, as he has already secured three wins. Valtteri Bottas is the only other driver on the current grid to win an F1 race in Texas.

It’s a slightly different story in qualifying, as Hamilton and Schumacher share the title for the most successful driver on a Saturday, with four pole positions each to their name in total United States Grands Prix. Verstappen, Bottas, Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc are the only other drivers on the current grid to secure the P1 starting spot in Austin.

What time does the United States Grand Prix 2024 start?

The 2024 United States Grand Prix starts on Sunday, 20 October at 14:00 local time (20:00 UK time). However, the rest of the weekend is different compared to normal because F1 are bringing their sprint version to Texas. Therefore, there is only one 60-minute practice session on Friday, 18 October at 12:30 local time (18:30 UK time). Sprint Qualifying will then take place on Friday afternoon at 16:30 local time (22:30 UK time). This will form the grid for Saturday's Sprint which will take place at 19:00 UK time. Qualifying for Sunday's Grand Prix then starts at 11pm UK time. The United States Grand Prix takes place on Sunday 20th October at 20:00 UK time.
