That there is still discussion surrounding the outcome of the Abu Dhabi race, in which Max Verstappen won and took his first title, is clear. A fan of Lewis Hamilton has started a petition to make Hamilton champion of 2021.

Nearly 1600 Hamilton fans don't put up with it

The petition was founded immediately after the race on Sunday by one Patel Gordon-Bennett. It's not taking things by storm as yet; at the time of writing, there are 1582 signatures on the petition to change the decision of the Abu Dhabi GP. It shows that the fans of the Briton are not yet happy. The subtitle of the petition reads "Lewis should be the winner".

Hamilton fans feel injustice has taken place in the final stage of the last race of the season. Michael Masi's race control made the wrong choice around the safety car situation and thus intervened too hard in the championship.

The pompous text accompanying the petition reads, "I believe that justice was not served on Sunday December 12, 2021 when the FIA stewards denied Lewis Hamilton of his win of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. With less than one lap remaining, some lapped cars were allowed to pass the safety car, which does not comply with the rules of the F1 sport." According to the petition's founder, this directly caused Verstappen to lose the opportunity to overtake Hamilton. "If you are an advocate of justice, honesty and fairness, please sign this petition. Leaving this decision as it stands will send a very wrong message to youngsters and future racers."
