Max Verstappen took the world title in Abu Dhabi on Sunday afternoon. A few days later, however, the issue is still about the actions of the race control. According to Mercedes, the stewards did not fully comply with the regulations, with which Chris Medland partly agrees.

The journalist into Mail+ revisits the last race of the Formula 1 season. After Nicholas Latifi crashed and the drivers drove behind the Safety Car, the race control decided to allow one more lap of racing. It ensured a victory for Verstappen, to the annoyance of Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes.

"It was an interpretation of the rules that might prove acceptable after numerous protests, but it makes Masi and race control appear hypocritical," Medland pointed out of bringing in the Safety Car earlier. "If there was wrongdoing, it had nothing to do with either, and that means there can be no real winner in this particular scenario. Neither of them deserves that. The whole season doesn't deserve that."

Congratulations from Hamilton to Verstappen

Hamilton showed his good side in Abu Dhabi by congratulating his rival on the win despite his disappointment. Behind the scenes, however, Mercedes is still working hard to figure out the possibilities.
