Mick Schumacher will no longer be a rookie next year, as the German has now finished his first season in Formula One. In an interview with Speedweek he spoke about his experience in his first season.
'His boy band'
Haas decided to go in a different direction in 2022. Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen said goodbye to the team and they were replaced by two rookies. The Ferrari junior sometimes still can't believe he's actually driving in Formula 1, but he's getting more enjoyment out of it each race. The fun and confidence largely comes from the engineers he calls his 'boy band'.
"They are the reason I feel so comfortable today, that racing in Formula 1 is second nature to me and, on top of that, I have learned so much as a driver and as a person [because of them]," the Haas driver said.
His race engineer Gary Gannon has helped him a lot and his calmness played a big part in that. He will always get straight to the point, which is very important for Schumacher.
In his father's racing car
The highlight of the Formula 1 season was perhaps driving the Jordan 191, the car in which Michael Schumacher made his Formula 1 debut. It was an unforgettable experience: "I can't imagine how great it must have been to race that car on great tracks, against legends of the sport. Bring back the atmospheric engines!"
