The FIA officially began an investigation into the controversial title final in Abu Dhabi on Monday, reports Sky Sports. The investigation, which involves speaking to all the key players, is expected to be completed by February 3. That's just under three weeks before the first days of testing in Barcelona.

FIA investigation objective and transparent

The events at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix - where Max Verstappen took the victory and thus the world title at the expense of Lewis Hamilton thanks to a safety car on the last lap of the race - caused a lot of controversy. Mercedes was angry about the course of events in which, according to the German team, the rules that apply during a safety car were not followed.

Mohammed Ben Sulayem, the brand new president of the FIA, is personally involved in the investigation. According to an FIA spokesman, the investigation will be thorough, objective and transparent. During the investigation, all those involved will be interviewed, including race director Michael Masi, drivers and representatives of Mercedes and Red Bull Racing.

Hamilton or no Hamilton in 2022?

Since the race in Abu Dhabi, it has been quiet around Hamilton. The seven-time world champion has not been heard from since and did not attend the FIA gala. Meanwhile, there are even reassurances that he won't be back at all next season. It is now expected that he will at least wait for the FIA's investigation before making a decision on the matter.
