Toto Wolff experienced a tough year last season. Mercedes entered the 2021 competition with Red Bull Racing and lost this battle in the closing stages of the season. However, the team boss would have been very close to the year.
In fact, the Austrian was hesitant to continue as team boss in 2020. During the corona crisis, Wolff lost the enjoyment of his job, making it increasingly difficult for him to motivate himself to give everything for Mercedes. In the end, Wolff decided it was better to continue his path at Mercedes, making him one of the key players in the blistering year of 2021.
Wolff, in conversation with the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung remembered well how he viewed the situation two years ago. "Personally, I felt a lot of pressure on my shoulders," he explains. "Nevertheless, I decided to stay with Mercedes and in Formula 1. I found my place here."
Mercedes prepares for changes
For now, it remains to be seen whether he will get to work with Lewis Hamilton again next season. In the meantime, he is busy behind the scenes putting together the new 2022 cars. Moreover, with George Russell he has a driver in house who will have to grow into the team in the coming years, so he has plenty of work to do.
