The final day of the Dakar Rally has taken on a black edge after 20-year-old mechanic Quentin Lavalée was killed in an accident with a local truck. The organization let it be known in a statement. The Frenchman was the driver of the car. His co-driver, Belgian Maxime Frère, was injured and taken to hospital conscious.
Mechanic for Peugeot in Classics class
The accident happened around 11:30 a.m. local time, according to local police. Lavalée worked for the PH Sport team during the Dakar Rally. He was chief mechanic of the Peugeot 205 Turbo 16 of driver Rudy Jacquot. "The Dakar organization extends its heartfelt condolences to Quentin's family, loved ones and PH Sport," the message reads.
