Hulkenberg stays with Aston Martin as test and reserve driver

Nico Hulkenberg will remain linked to Formula 1 in 2022 as well. Just like last season, he will be a test and reserve driver at Aston Martin next season. The German driver was therefore present at the presentation of the AMR22.
Since his contract with Renault was not renewed in 2019, Hulkenberg has not been a full-time Formula One driver. However, he was still on the grid twice in 2020 as a substitute at Racing Point following positive coroanvirus tests by Lance Stroll and Sergio Perez. Both races he finished in the points, putting him back on the radar of several teams.
Hulkenberg, for example, would also have been one of the contenders for the spot next to Max Verstappen at Red Bull Racing. That seat eventually passed the German by, but he was able to work at Aston Martin - formerly Racing Point - as a test and reserve driver. A new Grand Prix start did not follow, however.
Hulkenberg retained for Aston Martin
This coming season he will be back at the British racing stable as a test and reserve driver. "It's quite different when you look to the details," he analyzed the new car. "So it's one of the first jobs for the team and drivers now to understand the car and to learn about it."
