McLaren not surprised by Aston Martin: 'Nothing new discovered'
- GPblog.com
For the teams in Formula 1, these are interesting times. Due to the rule changes, there are many uncertainties: who has the main prize with the design of the car and who has completely missed the mark? During testing, it becomes clear.
Analysis
Until then, the teams are keeping a close eye on each other: 'What did that team do and how did we fix it?' The newly presented cars are therefore meticulously analyzed by all the teams. McLaren and Aston Martin are the teams that showed a car that actually goes on the track, so of course they are watching each other.
After the launch of McLaren MCL36, one difference stood out from the Aston Martin AMR22. The latter car had vents on the sidepods, while McLaren did not. McLaren has already studied the Aston Martin in depth, according to James Key of McLaren to FormulaRapida. So although the two cars are different, he is not worried. "We didn't discover anything that was new to us. I think it looks different from our car, but nothing we thought we had missed."
Surprises
Key says it's good that there is diversity. Now we have to wait and see what works and what doesn't. But for the other teams, he had some news in advance: McLaren did not show everything during the presentation, especially the rear of the car and the exhaust.
