Sebastian Vettel has repeatedly indicated that the switch from Ferrari to Aston Martin has done him well. Before last season, he signed a two-year contract there and so it expires after this season. So the question is: what happens in 2023?
The season has yet to begin, but Vettel is already being asked questions about his future. His answer during Aston Martin's press presentation was logically cautious. The German was clear that a decision depended on how good the AMR22 is and to what extent the car gives him the chance to return to the top of the sport. For him, that is essential.
"There is no doubt I am in a very competitive team and the team spirit is great," he told the media at Wednesday's launch of the new car. "The goal is clear, we want to progress and win. Ultimately, with the cars I've had so far, I'm mainly interested in winning and that will determine what the future will bring."
For Vettel, time is also running out. The German turns 35 this season, so he must slowly hurry to win a fifth world title. Moreover, Vettel has never made a secret of being able to do without Formula 1 as well. In 2020, there were already speculations about a farewell to the sport.
