Yuki Tsunoda is ready to get behind the wheel of AlphaTauri's new AT03. The Japanese driver says he is looking forward to the new Formula One season, where the pressure is all but off his shoulders.

Tsunoda had a strong performance during his Formula 1 debut in Bahrain 2021, in which he immediately managed to grab points. This was followed by a series of inconsistent performances. He regularly showed the necessary dose of speed and talent, but also regularly ended up on the side of the track.

Pressure still on for Tsunoda

Still, he ended the season with a fourth place in Abu Dhabi, the best result of his Formula One career so far. Tsunoda would like to carry that momentum into 2022, but it doesn't mean he's experiencing less pressure now. "I feel more pressure to perform now than I did last year," the Japanese man told Formula1.com.

However, he does not experience the higher pressure as a burden, but rather as motivation. "It's a good kind of pressure, which motivates me when I'm training," he explains. The AlphaTauri driver says he is looking forward to racing again. In addition, he feels that he understands what to do much better now than he did a year ago, because he knows how to prepare to perform well.

He also says he has learned his weaknesses and can build on the experience he gained as a rookie last year. "Last year, if anything unexpected or unusual happened, I could not adapt quick enough to deal with the situation, which is why I struggled in a lot of races," notes Tsunoda, who hopes to be rid of that problem in 2022.
