After three days of testing in Barcelona at the end of February, Formula 1 has now travelled to Bahrain for the final week of testing before the start of the season. Several teams brought changes to the circuit. GPblog gives an overview of the most striking changes.

With the arrival of the new regulations, a lot has changed about the cars. During the first week of testing in Barcelona we saw the innovative designs and especially noticed the big differences between the teams. The expectation was that the bolides would look different again in Bahrain, and with some teams that is the case.

Mercedes steals the show

Before the start of the second week of testing, rumours were already circulating that the team of Mercedes would come with a major update. The car drew a lot of attention on Thursday because of the new design of the side pods. The side pods are hardly visible on the car because of the extremely narrow design. However, the team did encounter balance problems on Thursday. Also the porpoising problem seems to have become more extreme on the straights.

No updates for Red Bull yet

Red Bull Racing attracted all the attention during the test days in Barcelona, but the team hardly comes up with any changes on the first day in Bahrain. The only minor change so far is to the RB18's front wing, but otherwise the car is the same as in Barcelona. Adrian Newey informed that there will be more updates on Friday and Saturday.

Other teams with minor adjustments

Aston Martin is also coming up with updates on the first day, although they are small. For example, a different mirror support can now be seen on the AMR22. In addition, the team debuted a new floor in an attempt to seal off airflow to the venturi ducts, which provide plenty of downforce in 2022.

In the afternoon session, Ferrari introduced some modifications to the car. A clear notch can now be seen on the side of the floor, with the aim of improving the stability of the airflow at high speed. Thus, the porpoising problem is solved at Ferrari. At Haas F1, there are no major aerodynamic changes, but the team does come to Bahrain with a new livery after removing Uralkali's logo from the car in Barcelona. On Saturday, the team immediately terminated its contract with the Russian company, and so we now see the classic colors of Haas again.
