Wolff sees Mercedes falling way back: 'They have reached their goal'

Toto Wolff is balking after the first two Grands Prix of 2022. The Austrian had expected more from his team, but also gives F1 compliments for the way the new regulations have worked out.
Mercedes is back on its feet for a while after eight world titles in a row. The German team has nowhere near the pace of Ferrari and Red Bull Racing and Lewis Hamilton did not even get out of Q1 in Saudi Arabia. The team still has a lot of work to do to become competitive under the new rules.
Wolff praises F1
The biggest problems still lie with the bouncing of the car. Wolff states in conversation with Sky Sports Wolff states that it is difficult for them to assess how fast they really are. Because of the bouncing they haven't been able to drive with the setup they want. The car now has to be set much higher to reduce the porpoising.
Yet Wolff also sees bright spots, because the new regulations do work. ''They have achieved what they wanted to achieve. Spectacular racing, good overtaking, the grid has been shaken up - which is less fun for us - but it happens. I'm happy about the hype around Formula 1. I think then they achieved the target,'' said the Mercedes team boss.
