Ricciardo holds back: 'We still have a long way to go'

Prior to the Australian Grand Prix, McLaren were fairly worried about the performance of their orange racing car. While last year the team were the only ones to score a 1-2 finish, this year they are simply happy with points. In Melbourne, Daniel Ricciardo managed to entertain his home fans with an eventual sixth place.
"I’m still on a high after a strong result in front of an incredible home crowd in Melbourne, so hopefully we can keep the momentum going as we head to Imola," explains Ricciardo in the preview from McLaren ahead of the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix. With teammate Lando Norris finishing fifth, McLaren scored a whopping 18 points in Australia.
No party mood yet at McLaren
With this, they have climbed to fourth place in the Constructors' Championship, just ahead of Alpine and close to Red Bull Racing in third place. Whether McLaren in Imola hold onto that fourth place is still the question as both drivers have already expressed that they are not yet satisfied with the speed of the cars.
Ricciardo also warns that McLaren should not think they have solved the problems. "Whilst the weekend in Melbourne was definitely a positive step forward, we still have a long way to go to get the car in the place we want it to be." So far the slow corners have been the stumbling point for the Woking-based team.
