Major hype for F1: "I've never seen anything like it"
The Miami Grand Prix is next up on the Formula 1 schedule and McLaren boss Zak Brown believes the event will rival the super bowl. The American is extremely excited to see a second United States Grand Prix on the calendar.
Miami Grand Prix
After much debate over a number of years, Formula 1 finally gets a race in Miami. When Liberty Media first took over Formula 1, they were keen to ramp up the American market and it seems like they've done exactly that. Brown explains how much attention is on the event from a hospitality perspective.
"It's going to be awesome. I've been here six years and I've never seen demand or buzz for a Grand Prix like I've seen for Miami. We can easily double our hospitality and we're already the largest hospitality buyer in Miami... it rivals the Super Bowl as far as 'are you going to the Miami race?'. I've been around F1 for 20 years and I'm used to going to Grands Prix but I've never seen anything like it," Brown told Reuters.
The race in Florida takes the tally of American races to two with the Texas GP on the schedule later in the year. Next season, Formula 1 will also visit Las Vegas for a Grand Prix on a Saturday night. So far, Liberty Media have found a lot of success in growing the sport and expect to break a record with 23 Grands Prix on the schedule this year.
