Schumacher is warned: "Now would be wrong"

Gerhard Berger has warned that Mick Schumacher should not make a switch to Ferrari too soon. According to the former Formula One driver, Schumacher should first focus on beating teammate Kevin Magnussen.
Schumacher is currently in his second season in F1 at Haas. As a Ferrari junior, the German is seen as a future contender for a seat at the Italian team to continue the legendary Schumacher-Ferrari story.
With new teammate Magnussen, Schumacher suddenly has an experienced driver sitting next to him. Haas has started 2022 strongly and Magnussen has so far scored points in three of the four races. Schumacher, however, has to step up after a number of incidents.
Schumacher must prove himself
As a former Ferrari driver, Berger believes Schumacher is not yet ready for the move to the Italian team. "First of all, I think [a move to Ferrari] would be too early for Mick. He has to show this year that he can also compete with his teammate and be ahead of him. That's why there is a huge task ahead of him", he tells Sky Germany.
Berger adds that it would be "very dangerous" for Schumacher to already be thinking about his way to Ferrari at the moment, but the Austrian doesn't think he is doing so. "In two or three years, if he performs well, you can say that now would be a good moment. Now would be wrong", Berger says. For now, there is no place at Ferrari for Schumacher anyway, as Carlos Sainz recently signed a new contract.
