Vettel can't contain himself: 'I won last time in Canada'
- GPblog.com
The previous Grand Prix of Canada was held in 2019 and was won by Lewis Hamilton. After a two-year absence, Formula 1 is back in Montreal and Sebastian Vettel does not seem to have forgotten that last race.
Vettel hasn't forgotten Canada 2019
At the FIA press conference for the Canadian GP, Vettel is asked what he thinks of the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal and why he loves the track so much. The Aston Martin driver seems unable to hold back and still has to briefly name Hamilton's controversial victory in 2019: "Well, last time I won here huh. At least, that's how it feels. I'm over it now as you notice."
Vettel disagreed in 2019 with the race officials who gave him a penalty. Because of the time penalty, the German lost the victory to Hamilton. It produced the iconic images of the then Ferrari driver exchanging the signs with the finishing positions in front of the cars.
Vettel optimistic, but realistic
In addition to joking about the previous Grand Prix, Vettel says he is looking forward to the next race with pleasure. After all, he and his Aston Martin are in good shape. In Baku, he scored hefty points with his P6 finish. However, the Heppenheimer remains realistic and does not expect a repeat of last weekend in Canada.
