Russell gambled on softs: "I think it was literally only Turn 1"

George Russell was the only driver to take the gamble of putting slicks on his car during Q3. The Briton was well underway, but could not put a lap on the soft tires.
Russell took big gamble
"High risk, high reward," Russell opens at Sky Sports F1. "I think it was literally just Turn 1." Russell encountered a large puddle of water, in turn one, which caused the grip to disappear immediately from his softs and he spun off the track in turn two.
"If it had been as dry as the other corners, we could have been in a good position. My lap was only half a second away from P4," the young Brit let us know. Russell knew the pace was good from the W13, but he didn't think that was enough. "I said on the radio that I'm not here to settle for P4 and P5 and that we needed to try things."
Russell defeated by Hamilton
In the end, Russell had to settle for an eighth starting spot. Teammate Lewis Hamilton did a lot better, scoring his best starting spot of 2022 so far with and P4.
