Verstappen provides nice gift on Father's Day: 'He was probably nervous'

Max Verstappen gave his father Jos the best Father's Day gift you can get: a Formula One victory. After the race, Verstappen was asked especially for Father's Day what role his father played.
Nice gift for Father's Day
It is no secret that Jos Verstappen has played a big role in Max's career. Jos reached F1 as a driver himself and was the most successful Dutchman ever in Formula 1 with podium finishes, but his greatest achievement is currently driving a Red Bull. Verstappen junior realizes this all too well too.
''Well, without my dad, I wouldn't be sitting here right now. So what he did for me is, well, difficult to explain,'' Max says at the press conference. ''He basically dedicated the next 12 years to make sure he would try everything and he did everything for me to be where I am right now.''
Jos Verstappen in suspense
Verstappen emphasizes that he did a lot together with his father. Jos knew about a lot of things, but always let Max watch so he understood what he was doing and why he was doing it. ''At the time I thought a bit lightly about it because I was like ‘why do I need to do all this? Why do I need to be involved?’ But it definitely helped me a lot. Now he doesn't have to tell me anymore, but I just really like to share every single weekend, not only about racing but in general, just, you know, what I'm doing and stuff like that. I think it's very important to have that kind of relationship.''
Verstappen provided a nice Father's Day present with his victory, but Max argues that Jos will not have sat in his seat so easily. ''I hope he enjoyed today. I'm sure he was very nervous out there. He's always nervous. So yeah, at least we made it stick. So that was a good present, I think'', concludes the reigning world champion.
