Red Bull Racing is busy behind the scenes preparing for the coming years. Red Bull Powertrains is in full swing and the Austrians have landed another important name. Phil Prew is coming over from Mercedes.

This week, news emerged that Porsche will almost certainly take a 50 per cent stake in Red Bull, making it a major player in the team from 2026 onwards. In the meantime, however, the Red Bull Powertrains project continues and is taking some important steps.

After several Mercedes employees made the switch to Red Bull earlier, Prew is following in their footsteps as well, reports Motorsport.com. Mercedes' chief engineer gained experience at McLaren in the past and was race engineer to David Coulthard, Juan-Pablo Montoya and Lewis Hamilton. He left for Mercedes in 2016.

Start date of Prew at Red Bull not yet known

At McLaren, he worked closely with Adrian Newey, so the contacts were clear. It is not yet known when Prew will officially start. However, by bringing in the experienced force, Red Bull is taking yet another step in gathering knowledge.
