'Good chance that Spa will still be on the calendar next year'

The Formula One season resumes after a summer break with the Belgian Grand Prix this weekend. While it seemed likely that the Belgian race weekend would disappear from the calendar in 2023, Erik van Haren believes it is possible that the drivers will still travel to Spa-Francorchamps.
In the coming years, Formula 1 hopes to welcome a number of new countries, which means the organisation also has to create space in the schedule. It would be at the expense of the GPs of France and Belgium, which are said to be the children of the bill.
Door for GP Belgium seems to be open
The negotiations with the organisers of the South African circuit are not going fast enough yet. Van Haren was therefore told by a source that it is quite possible that South Africa will have to wait another year and that Belgium will therefore be retained for one season.
"At the moment there is a good chance that South Africa will only be on the calendar in 2024, so not yet next year," the journalist told the Formula 1 podcast of De Telegraaf. "And that means there is a good chance that Spa will still be on the calendar next year. At least for one more year."
